Defense Minister Cécile Manorohanta resigned Monday
, citing the deaths of at least 25 people who were shot during a protest Sunday near a presidential palace. “After everything that has happened, I have decided not to be part of the government from this moment on,” she said in a statement on a local radio station. Madagascar has faced sporadic violence since Andry Rajoelina, the mayor of the capital, demanded that President Marc Ravolomanana step down.
