Madagascar Rift Continues

ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar (Agence France-Presse) —
In his first public appearance since a violent political crisis began nearly three weeks ago, President Marc Ravalomanana said Saturday that he intended to remain Madagascar’s leader.

Mr. Ravalomanana sought to draw a line against the challenge to his leadership by the capital’s former mayor, Andry Rajoelina.

Mr. Rajoelina, who has declared himself in charge of Madagascar’s affairs, appointed two new ministers for a government that he says should replace the current administration.
